Good and bad news for jobseekers
The good news is that according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation's latest figures, the number of people being recruited in to permanent and temporary roles has continued to increase. The bad news? That the growth in permanent placements recorded for July was the slowest in five months, and for temporary recruitment the slowest in seven months.
However, the important thing is that numbers of staff recruited and vacancies recorded is still growing month on month, even if that rate of growth has slowed. Candidates with specialist skills and experience are still in demand and securing employment. The recession has meant that many people are staying in their current role for security, and this means that there is less fluidity in the jobs market. Despite an overall increase in candidate availability, large numbers of unsuitable applications for jobs are being received, and this means that there is an opportunity for those candidates prepared to take a leap and apply for a new job. It doesn't have a to be a high risk move if you do your homework - use your recruitment agency and their knowledge of the potential employer, and ask the right questions at interview about how the business has responded to the recession. As they say - fortune favours the brave!
